Preserving Our County History-Remember History Matters!
Norman County Historical Society
Attention Genealogists! Our online resources moved.
Thank you for your patience as we move our online Norman County genealogy resources to this website. They will now be located under the “Resource Center” tab. You will find some links now and more will be moving shortly.
NCHS offers educational opportunities and social interaction for children and adults.
One of the most popular activities is Coffee and Conversation” which is held every Wednesday morning from the end of May through September. Click on the Events tab on the top toolbar to see the week’s topic. Adults and children, come to learn about and discuss various topics, primarily dealing with the county’s history. It’s also a social time to visit and enjoy the company of friends and neighbors.
The Society’s home in the Log Cabin in Prairie Village has become the gathering place for both young and old. Our motto is “If there is a car in the parking lot- stop in. The coffee is always on.”
Please Support Our Climate-Controlled Storage Project
We have raised over $70,000 of the $200,000 needed!
The Norman County Historical Society was established in 1947 by some forward-thinking members who knew the value of preserving the history of our small rural Minnesota county. From its early beginnings, the goal was to preserve, maintain, and promote the history of Norman County. Due to the size of our collection, we urgently need additional climate-controlled storage for our more fragile artifacts. Photos, papers, and clothing are vital items we are preserving for future generations. These items must be maintained in a climate-controlled environment. Our only building that is climate-controlled is the museum. It is bursting at the seams with treasures from the past. We need your help to continue preserving the history of the County. Please consider a donation to make this happen. We also are prepared to accept “Gifts of Commodities“. If you are interested in this option for giving please contact us at 218-784-6409.
